2022 Recital & Dress Rehearsal Take Home Notes for Pre-Ballet 1 Students

2022 Recital & Dress Rehearsal Schedule for ALL Students

PARTICIPATION

All students who are enrolled in the 2022 Winter and Spring Sessions can participate in our annual recital. It is an opportunity for students to showcase what they have been learning throughout the year. By performing, the children not only gain confidence and poise, but their appreciation for the performing arts grows immensley.

Students are not required to participate in the recital, but they are encouraged. We understand, however, that there may be important events that families are already committed to. Therefore, children can still enroll in classes and learn everything being taught, including the choreography, so they continue to progress with their classmates. It is important to note that MDA does not spend the entire classtime teaching recital choreography.

Students in combination classes (Pre-Ballet/Tap 3) will perform TWO dances, a ballet and a tap dance. All other classes will perform ONE dance. We will several performances. All Pre-Ballet level classes will perform in ONE show only. The upper level classes will perform in both shows.

ENROLLMENT DEADLINE

Why do we require participation during the Winter and Spring Sessions? There are several reasons:

  • During the Fall Session, students are learning and reviewing the basics of ballet and other dance forms according to their level. During the Winter and Spring Sessions, they are learning advanced steps and combinations that will be used in their recital dance.
  • Costumes must be ordered in the beginning of February in order for them to arrive before the show. On ocassion, our first choice of a costume is already sold out. There are a limited number of costume companies who provide costumes for thousands of dance studios.
  • Unbeknownst to students, the instructors are visioning and creating the choreography beginning in January based on student enrollment and ability. They are teaching steps, combinations, lines, and/or formations that may be used in their recital choreography later on.

RECITAL PARTICIPATION FEES: Recital fees include participation in all recital events (Picture Day, dress rehearsal, and recital). The fee also includes one class costume and tights. The fees are as follows:
  • $115 -- Students in Pre-Ballet 1, 2 or 3, Hip Hop Minis, and Pre-Jazz/Hip Hop
  • $125 -- Upper level classes (ballet, modern, jazz, tap, hip hop)

* All efforts are made so that siblings and students in multiple classes in the pre-level classes will perform at the same show. Unfortunately, this is not always possible. Tickets are required for both performances. We welcome moms to volunteer backstage for one of the shows, if desired. A ticket is not required. Backstage helpers can view their child's class perform from the wings.

** Upper Level Students in Ballet, Modern, Jazz, and Hip Hop are required to perform at both shows. They are not allowed to leave the performing arts center between shows.

BACKSTAGE VOLUNTEERS:

We will need people to volunteer to be classroom helpers, backstage, usher, and call table. You may or may not need to purchase a ticket as follows:

  • Classroom helper or backstage -- you will NOT need to purchase a ticket. You will be able to watch your child perform from the wings of the stage.
  • Classroom helpers of Pre-Ballet 1 -- you WILL need to purchase a ticket because you will be seated with your family after the Pre-Ballet 1 class performs. You will be able to watch them from the wings of the stage.
  • Usher or call table -- if you would like to be seated in reserved seats after the show begins, you WILL need to purchase tickets. Ushers who do not want to purchase tickets can sit/stand in the back of the auditorium after the show begins.

If you want to be a volunteer, please sign the sheets in the studio lobby, or email us

WEAR THE ENTHUSIASM!

Alice is constantly asked about her identity in her adventures in Wonderland. Wearing these memorable shirts will identify you as a wonderful MDA dancer or a dance mom, dad, sibling, grandparent, or friend. Our logo, Wonderland, will always remind you of the rabbit holes we all had to maneuver these past few years. It's been a time of both curisoity and confusion, but watching your child grow as a dancer has been an anchor in his or her sense of identity

Mad Matter: "Have I gone mad?"
Alice: "I'm afraid so. You're entirely bonkers. But I'll tell you a secret. All the best people are.”

Jerzees 50/50 crewneck t-shirts are available in the following sizes/price:
  • Child XS through XL — $18 (pre-order) / $20
  • Adult XS through XL — $19 (pre-order) / 21
  • Adult 2XL — $21 (pre-order) / not available after order is placed
  • Adult 3XL — $23 (pre-order) / not available after order is placed

SAY IT WITH FLOWERS!

Let special dancers how much you appreciate their hard work, commitment, and passion for dance!

We are collaborating with a local individual entrepreneur, Lisa, owner of "Floralore," to provide a variety of floral arrangements, necklaces, and other floral artistry for your special dancer. A variety of bouquets will be set aside for you to be picked up in the lobby of the venue prior to the show.

So many reasons to pre-order:

  • You're supporting a local floral artisan! "What a small world this is!"
  • No running around on recital day! “My dear, here we must run as fast as we can, just to stay in place. And if you wish to go anywhere you must run twice as fast as that.”
  • So you don't leave your bouquet at home! "I'm late, late! For a very important date!"
  • Your dancer will know you care.  "And the moral of that is - oh, 'tis love, 'tis love, that makes the world go round."
  • Where shall I go to get flowers? "Some go this way. Some go that way. But as for me, myself, personally, I prefer the short cut.
